COVID-19 Update – We’re Thinking of You!

June 10, 2020

For all of us, the past 13 weeks have been unprecedented. One thing has become abundantly clear in the days since the coronavirus (COVID-19) became a reality: sports — college athletics, in particular — are deeply missed.

While we optimistically await the return of college athletics, we hope you will support our student-athletes in a different way — by making a gift to the Athletics COVID-19 Assistance Fund.

The pandemic has challenged the financial stability of Northwestern Athletics due to significantly reduced revenues and the increased cost of bringing our student-athletes back to campus in a safe manner. Further, some spring sport seniors will return this fall after being granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA. This fund will support the unexpected costs of scholarships, nutrition, and travel, as well as provide funding for other unforeseen COVID-19 financial implications.

Please make a gift today to make an immediate and profound impact on the lives of our student-athletes.

THANK YOU for your continued support. We wish you and your families good health and optimism in the days ahead.

Wildcat Fund Members,

First and foremost, we hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to get to know many of you on a personal level, and we truly see you as part of our Wildcats family.

As we all are witnessing each day, circumstances surrounding COVID-19 are shifting rapidly, and we want to provide you with an update on our response within Northwestern Athletics. Our top priority is making sure that our student-athletes are safe, supported and informed.

Our outstanding coaches and staff spent last week assisting student-athletes with travel arrangements to get home or wherever their ideal environment might be. The vast majority have reached those destinations, but we have kept our residence halls open for a small number of international students and those who have nowhere else to go. Our academic support staff supported our student-athletes through winter quarter finals and is working diligently to prepare them for success in a new educational environment this spring. Additionally, our sports medicine, sports performance and nutrition teams have been working with our student-athletes to ensure they have what they need, both physically and mentally.

You would not be surprised that our incredible student-athletes have handled this challenge with poise, resiliency, and a renewed commitment to our University and one another. We know you share in the pride we have for their academic and athletic successes and, now, in the face of uncertainty and adversity.

You may have questions in the days ahead pertaining to your Wildcat Fund membership, upcoming deadlines, Purple Points and more. While we may not have answers to everything yet, we are here for you the same way you have been here for the ’Cats for many years. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us directly. Our contact information can be found here.

On behalf of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, thank you for your continued support and steadfast commitment. We wish you and yours great health, and we are more grateful than ever for your impact on our student-athletes.
